A day in the life of a freelance photographer - Doug Gifford

July 20, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

On Saturday, July 18th I started my day in foul weather gear, dodging rain drops, lighting and salt water as we chased down and photographed the yachts in the 3rd start of the 2015 Transpac Yacht Race in the ocean off San Pedro, California.

Back on shore I peeled off my foulies, downloaded the files, did a quick edit, upload selects to the editor, showered, put my suit and tie on and drove to downtown LA for a event at 6pm honoring the great civil rights attorney, Fred D. Gray.

Once home, I unloaded the car, peeled off my suit and tie, poured a glass of wine, downloaded the files, ftp them to the client, showered and slept soundly.

Just another day in the life of a freelance photographer!

I helped out my friend Ryan Mill with Capture Images and photographed the National Bar Association Board of Governor’s Reception honoring legendary Civil Rights Attorney Fred D. Gray was held at the Law Offices of Ivie, McNeil and Wyatt, Los Angeles, California on July 18, 2015.

It was an honor to meet a man that had done so much in his life to make this a better country for all of us to live in.

Transpac 2015 - Wild Oats XI Hawaiian Christening Ceremony

"In a deferential nod to the Hawaiian gods, Wild Oats XI co-skipper Roy P. Disney invited Kahu minister Danny Akaka Jr. and his wife Anna to conduct a traditional Hawaiian christening ceremony today as the boat prepared for tomorrow’s final start of the 48th edition of the Transpac race from Los Angeles to Honolulu. In a moving tribute to a Polynesian culture that reveres the sea, the ceremony blessed the yacht and its crew for a fast, safe passage to Hawaii."- Dobbs Davis/ Transpac
